1. Get your provisional license

Before you can learn to drive you will need to obtain a provision driving license.

You can apply for this from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). The application form - the D1 - can be completed online or obtained from your local Post Office. Click here for more information from the direct.gov website.

2. Pass the Theory exam

The theory test must be passed before you take the practical exam. It is a multiple choice computer test. There is also a Hazard Perception Test.

We can advise on the learning materials required and our instructors will be there to advise and provide you with the support at every stage. To book the theory test you will need to contact the Driving Standard Agency (DSA) on 0330 200 1122 or online at direct.gov.uk/motoringonline.

3. Pass the Practical exam

The final practical exam is also booked with the Driving Standard Agency (DSA). We will let you know when we feel you are ready for your test.

Similarly with the Theory exam, you can book your Practical exam online too - simply visit direct.gov.uk/motoringonline.

4. Pass the Pass Plus exam (Optional)

If you feel nervous driving on your own, the Pass Plus training can help you become more confident on the road.

Pass Plus consists of six practical modules which cover driving in a city, driving in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways.

You can take it any time within the first 12 months of passing your test. It may also reduce your insurance by 15% on average!
